Right, I think I've decided to go with horizontal polarization as like you said I'm not building a roadkill trap. However, again my antenna will probably be vertically polarized (of course, not if I can help it, but...), what kind of losses do you think that will cause?

Waveguide? I apologize, I am not familiar with this concept. Is it associated with high gain parabolic feedhorn antennas (or is that my memory failing me)? Could you please explain this in a little bit more detail?

Do you have any general predictions as to how precipitation (in the form of rain, snow, hail, etc.) will affect signal propagation? If the road conditions are simply gravel, what effect will that have?

In this case would it be of any benefit to have my antenna at a higher elevation than the TX antenna under the vehicle (would it be any difference between 40' above v.s. 10')?
