I noticed Amtrak is licensed to use 159.900 at Portland and 173.375 in Seattle. Neither frequency is a typical railroad channel.

Does anyone know if these frequencies are used by Amtrak Police? I know on the east coast, Amtrak Police uses several 173-MHz frequencies in the New York/Boston area.

They really don't have much of a police presence in the NW I think one special agent out of Seattle. Matt Le Blanc, he used to ride the football specials when they ran them in the 90's--carried a mile long baton. Never heard those freqs in use

I used to see 2-3 of their officers in the evenings when I was riding the Sounder and they were meeting or seeing off the Coast Starlight train. I know they carried VHF radios and Next-hells, but was almost always running late for my train and never did any sleuthing.

159.900 is also licensed to Amtrak at Philadelphia and New Orleans.

If it's not police-related, maybe it's for the mechanical department?

Mechanical would probably use either station services 1616 160.350 or 6262 161.040 which is the switching channel. Both are verified in use at Portland. When I go back down there again I'll listen in to the 159 freq.

Does Seattle use 1616 or 6262?

They have a license to use 1111 (160.275) and 4343 (160.755) in Seattle, that's why I'm asking.

No, those two are a Portland assignment. Seattle usually uses 2323 160.455

Portland has the 1st class lounge. The attendant coordinates pre-boarding with the rest of the crew on 160.350. Spokane was using 6262 at one time for the switch crew and also 2323. Frequencies can and do change. My best source is supplied by those who work and ride Amtrak

I don't get into Seattle that much, what is your reference for the Amtrak license?

173.375 is used as a motion picture and filming frequency normaly.
