Snohomish County Fire agencies getting new high tech. digital pagers. Not Motorola. You can enter 8 differant cap codes, and select which ones you want on or off.

What do you mean by 'cap' codes? Is this something totally new for them or just a a newer digital pager?

We have a dozen or so of those out in the field now. Pretty cool little pagers.

Were testing a new non Mot voice pager now also. The name escapes me. We are waiting for their UHF model to be shipped next month...

google.

Cap Code - A pager's unique electronic identification number

so a pager that can have 5 cap codes could have 5 different pager numbers, or listen to 5 different page services.

Pager data is shot out in one big stream on a simplex, the pager must pick out data that is destined for it. In the case of emergency services they might have EMS that page out disp. information so with a multi cap pager one device will allow the use of the department codes, team codes, county codes, and a personal pager number. (as an example)

the term digital pager typically means that it is alphanumeric they actually all run on the same encoding that was invented back in the day of Eazy_e and the "drug pager"

What is really cool is the base unit and they have a VHF/UHF dual band pager also in the same format.
