I'm home now. It was a real mess. The fire crossed the brushlands real quickly to the ranch I was at. On the way out, I saw the winds tear off a couple roofs and throw large trees in the road. Also saw a pretty good sized pre-fab building toppled over on its side crushing a lamppost & concrete fence. Off the 14 & 405 freeway the skies were black all the way to LA, likewise with the 101 to Ventura, as there were more fires in Canyon Country, Placerita Canyon, Malibu, and Topanga. Now I'm hearing about even more fires in SD & OC.

KNX had a live phone call this morning during my drive time (KNX 1070 comes in good at home, but fades out north of Auburn on the 167 fwy) from a trucker in San Diego who was watching a fire come down a hillside along the 5 towards him.

Obvious file:

It's going to take a good rain to snuff the situation.

Then, of course, there will be the landslides because of the damaged vegetation.

And then, of course, a good 'ol fashion shaker to top it off.

WTF would anyone want to live down there?

Let's see how long it takes FEMA to get rolling. :!:

The news media stated 900,000 have evacuated.

If anyone happens on a radio link, like Katrina, post it up.

I don't have my shortwave antenna rigged up right now.
Maybe I'll throw a wire out the window and see if I can't get something off of 3.96kHz.

Is there a better time of day this freq comes up the coast?

The 'link' I was talking about; Thier was a couple website's mirror'ing actual scanner traffic during katrina. Like a flash or realplayer. Can't remember exactly.
