XTSK is better than XTS3K

5K supports OBT out of the box whereas the 3K does not.

That being said, you really need a mobile for WSP's system(s).....

A good compromise would be an XTS5K and XTVA with HHCH...

The XTS5K work very well for me traveling up and down I-5 and East of the mountains.

Go with a Kenwood TK5720 and you'll be very happy. Easy to program and the mobile radio is the same size as their ham radio offerings. The P25 uses the AMBE+2 vocoder and their software is easy to find in online searches. I can send you the latest firmware file. The hardest part can be finding one.

How does it handle auto affiliation?

I agree with something other than Motorola. Tank like durability but software isn’t always easy to come by

The new Kenwood software seems a PIA to me. How would you get past their new licensing system?

So it sounds like there's nothing special about Motorola's P25 mode, any commercial radio that is P25 capable should be able to receive it? Is there an option in the software to turn off the transmit function, or do you simply program it for a 2 meter frequency? It appears that Kenwood has a model TK-5210 that is P25 capable and there are several for sale on a well known auction site, as well as programming cables and original Kenwood software. I don't have room for another mobile in the front area of my car so an HT would be easier to manage.

Why do you need to be on IWN trunking? VHF conventional works just fine.

IMHO, it's pointless to get any P25 commercial radio unless it has the AMBE+2 vocoder. In this case, the portable would be the TK-5220 model.

https://www.kenwood.com/usa/com/lmr/tk-5220_5320/

And if you really want to do IWN VHF Trunking then the only option would be an APX4000 or APX6000 in VHF.

Examples:

APX4000 --> https://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorola-APX40 ... 4004525552

APX6000 --> https://www.ebay.com/itm/MOTOROLA-SRX22 ... 4088345277

You'll need to buy the APX CPS Software thru MOL. You'll also need the APX USB programming cable. They have a deal for like $150 for 3 years for access to firmware/software updates.

It's very doable but not cheap...

Here's a quick video from today from my TK-5720. You can hear WSP's audio quality... it doesn't get much better than this...

Am I correct that this TK-5720 is a current model?

It's not their top-of-line unit but yes it's still being sold.

The XTS5000 doesn't have a AMBE+2 vocoder.
