Dist 3, 4 and 5. all P25

Hmm, I guess these guys are the lucky guinea pigs for testing P25..? Or maybe it's more to do with propagation, etc... considering these are all relatively flat locations.

Kinda, the east end of Dist 3 is all remote bases, with more hills. Yakima is probably easier with a couple of repeaters and more open spaces. They had it in Dist 2 for about 2 weeks. Chehalis and Kelso sound marginal. I hear a lot of "once more" traffic on the radio than I used to. The C/C traffic which is analog in the digital areas is strangely quiet.

When was this? They had P25 live last year in D1 and that was OK; though, you could hear some frustration in some of the radio traffic.

Lisa/Sipura/Jacobsmith- Since all three names are posting from the same IP address, I wasn't sure whom to address...Why is it a stupid idea?

Ps- please explain why you've registered and posted under 3 different aliases in a private message to me.

Please see post in the general forum.

I see that the Tacoma site is back on the air after a week of failure.

This evening when I was at the very north end of Lewis County on I-5, I heard a WSP lieutenant at the Lewis/Cowlitz county line informing Chehalis dispatch of a multicar accident at mp58. I would never have guessed he was over 25 miles away as his P25 signal was as good as if he were right next to me. His location was typically one of the worst for getting into their system. Have they installed extra receivers to feed mobile signals into the area frequency, or could he have been transmitting on 700 mhz and was broadcast the same as dispatch on the area frequency? Every time he transmitted it was almost perfect. Usually I can't hear mobiles if they're over 10 miles away.

Status update for Vancouver.

All comms RE: Disp are P25 at this point. Signal quality varies drastically from time to time. They are in fact using both Conventional P25 and IWN (TG 59510:Dispatch Dist. 5), and at times I have Conv/IWN/MON WSP TG on CRESA up simultaneously. So no matter your skill level, you can at this point still monitor them in Digital, IWN Trunk and even Conventional Trunk over CRESA.

I suspect that they simulcast Disp. on Conventional and IWN from Disp as the local (on Vancouver Freeways) units are on IWN a lot, and we had been told the only real reason IWN was to be used was to supplement coverage issues in the Gorge especially. But lately it seems nearly every transmission is also on IWN. Far clearer than I anticipated and at least once was clearer than the conventional transmission.

I used to be able to get Kelso in here like gangbusters, but since the switch, it went to hash, when any signal was present at all. The memo someone posted indicated a new primary dispatch site on Rainier, which ought to blast in here, but alas still nada. I know one complaint was that the Green Mt. site was not a repeater and never got updated that I know of like Vancouver did with repeaters all over, which may have been a reason they changed to a site looking at I-5 better. Anyone know if it's supposed to repeat? Did they move the IWN site from Green Mt to Rainier as well? I get that site periodically, but not often.

I've been surprised that they are simulcasting WSP traffic on the Portland IWN sites, but I guess it's a coverage thing.

In this area, State, LERN, NLEC, and the CAR channels are strangely quiet. I have picked them up as both analog and P25, but neither lately. Nor has the TG the techs were originally using on IWN for mapping coverage been active. I'm talking about the one originally posted by Chris and Jeremy early on.

I suspect he means Rainier, OR.

Last time I went by, the IWN site was still on Green Mountain.

In King County, the old car channels are mostly replaced by the trunked versions, not simulcast. If you have Pro96com running you can tell whether the units are on conventional or trunked - or tune the input side and just listen.

The Rainier site was not a repeater, either, just simplex P25. For awhile dispatch was specifically identifying as "Rainier" or "Kalama" depending on which one they were transmitting on, but lately I only hear them identify as "Kelso". It was my understanding the Rainier site was a temporary test because Columbia Co. also has transmitters on Green Mtn. and are constantly pounding WSP's frequency, so they were checking to see how that would work for them. Maybe they're still using Rainier and have just stopped identifying as such. What is the Green Mtn IWN frequency? I'd like to see if I can pick it up from Kelso.

Site 115 Kalama control channel is usually 170.675

I'm hearing that on Aug 25th, they are going to flip the switch for District 7 to their TRS. It's going to take three days starting with Snohomish, then Skagit and ending with Whatcom.
