Just checking to see if anyone else does live ADS-B monitoring here in Seattle..? I'm just curious what kind of results you're getting? I think the mountains limit some of my contacts to a certain altitude, etc.

I'm using the RTL SDR with ADS-B filter and my external HAM antenna (Diamond x510.) I have (on order) a tuned ADS-B antenna that will be here next week. Going to get that up on the roof (for maximum effective scan range) with LMR400UF down to the RTL SDR and filter.

Right now I've been using RTL1090 and ADSB# with ADSBSCOPE software (all freeware.)

PS. I think Intercept needs an Aviation forum. :)

Maybe I'm tired, but I thought that, at one time, we DID have one?

Though it probably went away when Matt Cawby was deported.

Been doing ADS-B monitoring for about 4 years now using a RadarBox and a dedicated ADS-B 9 dB vertical made by DPD. I pick up some flights over 100+ miles away well up into Canada but is very line-of-sight so blocked by trees and mountains in some directions, works somewhat better in the winter when the leaves are down. I've noticed a significant increase in the use of ADS-B by the airlines in the past year and sometimes my display screen can be very busy.

What is especially interesting is to watch many of the Boeing test flights as well as the many international overflights from Asia-Pacific to ORD, ATL, DFW, etc. that pass by just to the north of Seattle. There are also many flights to SFO and LAX from Europe and Mid-east that pass by just to the east of Seattle. Also interesting in bad weather to sometimes watch inbound SeaTac flights in holding patterns when traffic gets backed up.

Gordon, yes, I received my DPD antenna on Wednesday. I got it strapped up on the backyard fence (in-between houses) at the moment until I can get it up on the roof. A little snowy today so will have to hold off on that project. :)

The antenna+filter is an excellent combination. The plotting is a lot more fun with the appropriate hardware though I'm just using a $25 RTL SDR dongle.

Here's my best plot so far... 146 NM from this location isn't too bad. The antenna is only 6ft off the ground. I'm on a downslope facing the south-southwest so that helps explain my plot. I can get some decent traffic up north but only at altitude.
