You WOULD be correct, had you not asked the question:

I found a neglected and torn paper bag full of old slides at work. Currently in the process of cleaning then scanning them all @ 23mp resolution.

Spotted on Capitol Hill. I'm guessing it's a vibration sensor for the Link Light Rail project extension to Husky Stadium.

I walked past 3rd and Broad once circa. 1984 and I think I saw that GMC parked there along with other news vehicles. They had the MTX 300 series jerk and run radios installed. Probably an early user of 800mhz.

And now, you can stream a video, at 10x the resolution, and edit it on the fly, directly from your phone, instead of a tractor/trailer..

Good eye! We finally retired the MX360s and their Convert-a-coms when we rebanded our 800 system here at the station. We might still have a convert-a-com in unit 77, which is our analog sat truck. The radios were replaced with MTS2000s. Many of our news vehicles have MTVAs for those MTS2000s.

Thanks! Here are some more. There are 600+ slides to go through, so there will be more to come!

News studio. Notice the control room windows above the 'Eyewitness News' text.

CMX Edit Suite

'B' Control, which overlooks the news studio

'B' Audio, which is adjacent to 'B' Control. Also overlooks the news studio.

At the news desk

Behind the desk. Those white phones with the PTT are still in use today. We call them 'White Phones'

RCA TCR-100 'cart' machine. This would play back commercial spots.

Sound Transit says it's a data collection point for settlement monitors along the U-Link route. And that they will be coming out soon.

Cool- figured it had something to do with them.

Here's a shot of the old KIRO radio assignment desk:

No idea where this is:

This slide was titled "headend" but I'm not sure where it would be? Water tower looks like Magnolia, but the only H Tower I'm aware of is in the Federal Way/Fife area.

The H tower might be the old cable TV head end at the TopHat site near S 112 and 1 Ave S. The tower is gone, but the footings can still be seen.

No idea where this is: Might be the old KSTW studio on 19th in Tacoma. I think Bates has it now

In Google Earth, bringing the imagery back to July 1990 you can see some sort of structure next to the water tank. Not super clear what it is, but it looks like it could be an H tower.

Thanks for the insight. Looks like a nice self support tower took its place.

Wow, I love those pictures, Mike! It was still back when TV News was still "Look at me! Look what we can do with a camera!"

And I like the sign on the back of that trailer for the sat dish!

The H Tower seems to have been for the Northwest Cablevision (Teleprompter)
headend that later would become part of TCI and it's successors.
It was located on the Seattle Public Utilities (Water Dept.) Beverly Park Tank site.

A new headend facility was constructed around 1999 about 1 block to the SE,
it somewhat looks like a mini SETI site when viewed in aerial imagery!

This site has historic CATV info:
