What is the point in reposting information elsewhere when people have no problem finding it here ?

WSP seems to be equipping more of their fleet in D5 with the PC Tel (laird)1/4 wave spring whip and an 800 open coil antenna in front of the light bar or far forward if a slick top.

Same with D-2 troopers.

Painting with a pretty broad brush, aren't you? I know plenty of places that have gone to full encryption across the board, and no one has sued them.

Also, I doubt there will be any "media" radios allowed on a DOJ-owned system.

Well, its not like the DOJ will give the media a radio WITH all the talkgroups including theirs; I have a feeling if there is demands from WSP, they can hammer out a deal with the DOJ about that issue and there would be media radios obviously with TX inhibit on and only WSP talkgroups for the area they are in and the media user is paying for the privilege.

A government with no transparency has no accountability.

Remember the MPDC officers who were sending racist messages over their MDCs? They didn't fire the officer, they encrypted their system. W T F.

But no, wasn't to hide anything, it was 'for officer safety'.

Read some stuff a while back supplied by another member of this forum by direct email with links to DOJ sites and a couple news articles...

...which leads me to ask the question: Who says DOJ will still own it? What I have read says "IWN is DEAD" as in there is NO money in the DOJ budget for its nationwide buildout, not even for "continued maintenance"...

And still no details from the "lamestream media" or anyone else for that matter as to the nature of the system architecture... or to restate, "who controls what"... I am thinking 10th amendment issues here...

So maybe DOJ is going to "surplus" the Washington State IWN system to WSP? That wouldn't "scare" me too much, provided there isn't some sort of "central kill switch" backdoored into the system...

As far as "system reliability" which techs get called out if the "shared" microwave goes kaput :?: :?: :?: :?

WSP can't even keep backup generators maintained properly        :P :P

Listeners with the ability to decode P25 VHF radio won't be completely locked out of hearing WSP. There are plans keep most of the Area channels on the same VHF channels that have been licensed to the state and used for years. P25 without encryption or trunking will be used on these basic dispatch channels. A few VHF car-to-car channels will be left in the analog mode along with LERN and a couple others. Encrypted IWN and 700/800 MHz trunked talkgroups will be used mostly for fill-in coverage and additional capabilities especially in high population areas where many local jurisdictions already use trunking. The sharing of infrastructure with IWN is the behind the scenes story that most listeners won't realize.

Not the 25 kHz wide ones.

It will be reported here when they start testing the system. Until then enjoy what you can hear.

Interesting.

I find it more curious why section C was redacted....

$4800 for the cheaper mobile? That's what happens when you go sole source...

Already hearing grumbling over lack of coverage because they're gone from 100 watt mobiles to 50 watt mobiles. It's not pretty so far.

I think the problem has more to do with the fact that it's a TDMA box that has three radios in it (four if you count the GPS).
