The LA Times reports that The Long Beach PD (CA) is missing 85 of it's 272 shotguns -- that are assigned to police patrol units. That's almost 25%. The story also reports that the department, which has not bought any new weapons in 20 years -- has been trying to get enough money to purchase a computer system to track and inventory all weapons. ---- While they have not had much success at comming up with the funds for the new inventory computer system -- the city is preparing to move full speed ahead with plans for a new 700 Mhz trunked radio system to be run out of a newly constructed 911 dispatch center. http:www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-shotguns13jan13,0,5267085.story?coll=la-home-headlines

85 or 25% of their shotguns missing. That's quite a number and a lot of extra guns on the street. And then a new radio system. Sounds to me like someone might have some priorities mixed up.
There is a govt agency practice that goes back as far as I can remember and that is if you have money in the budget and don't spend it you'll never get it back. Maybe that is why were seeing so many new radio systems.

It's also a fact that the last full audit was about ten years ago and the Long Beach PD has NOT bought any new shotguns in over 20 years. In that 20 years -- some weapons might have ended up as spare parts or just miss placed or assigned to other divisions. There was also the LA riots back in the 90's and some weapons could have been loaned out or assigned out. The bottom line is -- where are the weapons.
