...Neighboring cities like Auburn, Puyallup, Bonney Lake and Pacific, have already switched to a common radio system that allows officers to communicate across a three-county network (Pierce, King, and Snohomish Counties). Because Sumner was not on the network, officers could experience delays getting needed help. Now, being on the same system, when Sumner officers need help the most, neighbors are able to listen and respond before even being asked...

OK -- So the Sumner Police will be on the Puyallup 800 Mhz cell. What about the Sumner Fire/EMS and PWD's ???? Will they remain on VHF high band ??

Has anyone heard an effective date? Did they get a grant to purchase the radios or has this been in the works long enough that new radios are in this years budget?

I think it's going to be slower than expected/hoped. Puyallup CityComm is doing their dispatching now, then eventually SPD will move to 800. Somewhere I read the million dollar figure, too tired to recall.

Makes sense though. With Zone-2 (Puyallup's subsystem) utilizing 4 towers where they are, Sumner is blanketed with signal.

Now Puyallup's moving forward on their Graham Hill tower I hear.

I'm hearing units calling "Sumner" on tg 2096 of the Puyallup cell. Another member mentioned he was hearing them last week as well. What's on the 800 system is not being simulcast on the VHF side, and vice versa. Could still be a testing phase, could be something else, who knows?

Also, the unit calling on 800 was "602", which I don't recall ever hearing on VHF. Anyone know their numbering scheme?

ETA- It may have been 603. She just arrived on a call.
