YPD is already busy this morning @ just after 7 this morning:

M13: "Mary 13, Adam 3 on 2."

A3: "On 2 go ahead."

M13: "What's the last three of the cell phone RCW."

A3: "What?"

M13: "What's the last three numbers of the cell phone law that goes into effect today."

A3: "667."

Other unit chimes in: "What's the whole number?"

A3: "46.61.667."

Other unit: "What do we call it, using cell phone while driving?"

A3: "That will work."

:bowrofl:

I'm not 100% sure but does this ticket show up on the driving record ?

One of my co-workers got nabbed this morning and he is inches away from being canned because of points on his driving record.

Seen on the news that troopers and local pd say that today they have seen far less people pn the phone. Good sign ......... to start.

As indicated it does not show up on your driving record as a moving violation or so says the media. Per my State Senator it also exempts Ham Radio operators and those of us who now use hearing aids (as we drive into the golden years.)

New Law = You MUST PUT DOWN the phone whenever you see the COP.

On a more serious note, the HAM exemption is narrowly constructed, as I read it.
It has been a while since I last read, but appears to address the radio gear specifically.
I could be wrong, but that was how I read it when I last looked.

You can hold it and eat it, just don't put it near your ear.

Yes, but tacos are off limits to you.

So if I'm a tow truck operator, I can use my cell phone to call dispatch (so long as I'm on my way to get the car) but using the radio is illegal unless I'm a ham running on the ham bands.
