Most P25 ham stuff is above 146.00Mhz. This is due in part to the bandsplit of some radios on the market go from 146 to 174Mhz. They will work analog below 146, but not digital. I have been using 147.540 for over 15 years up there, with the last 5 or 6 years P25 (back when Rhett KB4HG was still here). It's just like any other busy hamfest, all of the channels on VHF, and a lot on UHF will be busy. Most of us digital guys run in mixed mode with CSQ on analog so we don't just key up on top of some people. You would be surprised the number ofanalog users who run CTCSS encode, and decode that DO NOT monitor before they key up. There is only a hand full of us who will be using P25, and it will be light usage at that, so I would assume you will hear a lot of other stations beside us P25 guys, I'm working most of the time anyway. I would say that 85% of the hams I talk to in Puyallup on 7.54 will be on analog, and that where they find me if I am monitoring the radio at that time.

Anyone who wants to play around with a P25 unit please stop by my table and try one out.

Hmmm.. Funny you mention Rhett, KB4HG... Last time I talked with him it was via "corporation provided wireless network" device... or, K5IN's cellphone:) Generally worked those guys on 144.220 SSB

That was before the large number of "big-gun" FM simplex operations on 147.54 locally... and I was still mountaintopping and contesting out of an
olive-drab VW bus :bowrofl:

I do have to agree with you about the folks running Tone Squelch or DCS... One of the reasons I pretty much have given up on running a portable during that event... more trouble than its worth. Especially when you set it down on a table and some guy tries buying it from the proprietor of the table :nobs:

Exactly! Regional Band Plans are a gentlemans agreement and that holds true on simplex. Like previously mentioned if there is an issue we change frequencies.

147.540 has been in use at MANY hamfests in the US and Canada without a problem.

And you mentioned Western Washington. Isn't that the repeater council that likes to hide their coordination list?

I don't see what the problem is.

147.540 is used in this area as a simplex frequency all the time.

I sorry I started up this thread. :(

It is starting to sound like a bunch of chicken banders instead of hams. :D

My idea was to have a meet & greet place for Intercept members who would be in Puyallup. It has turned into a pissing contest.

"Can't we all get along" like the saying goes?

Hey Kelly,

I know what you look like too and will be on the look out also.

I won't have the lobster with me . He belongs to a place in the food court down there :D

Should we look for KE7JFF with a big can of beer?

So - I guess to sum it up:

147.540 FM CSQ

147.540 P25

224.640 FM CSQ Yea, it's a repeater frequency, but used locally for simplex.

146.495 FM 67.0

446.495 FM 67.0 (may have interference with the 446.500 users)

446.025 P25

145.670 D-Star (the local D-Star contingent will be using this for simplex)

If there's interest, perhaps a group lunch can be done sometime after the meet up. That's up for discussion....

Brad.

:( :( :( :!:

Just got a call from my friend Mike (KI7VM) who I was planning to go to Puyallup with on Saturday and he is sick and won't be able to make it this year.

So....
I think I won't make the trip down there by myself. I was looking forward to meeting some of you but probably will later this year at an Intercept meeting.

By the way, when are we going to schedule another Intercept meeting? It doesn't sound like too many will make the Puyallup meetup on Saturday.

Have fun and don't spend all your money on ham stuff. Save some for scanner stuff :D

I will keep tabs on 147.540 in analog and digital.

Of course, I will be spending 2-3 hours tops there as afterwards, I am heading up to Vancouver Island afterwards and need to make a 3:15 ferry.
