Most P25 ham stuff is above 146.00Mhz. This is due in part to the bandsplit of some radios on the market go from 146 to 174Mhz. They will work analog below 146, but not digital. I have been using 147.540 for over 15 years up there, with the last 5 or 6 years P25 (back when Rhett KB4HG was still here). It's just like any other busy hamfest, all of the channels on VHF, and a lot on UHF will be busy. Most of us digital guys run in mixed mode with CSQ on analog so we don't just key up on top of some people. You would be surprised the number ofanalog users who run CTCSS encode, and decode that DO NOT monitor before they key up. There is only a hand full of us who will be using P25, and it will be light usage at that, so I would assume you will hear a lot of other stations beside us P25 guys, I'm working most of the time anyway. I would say that 85% of the hams I talk to in Puyallup on 7.54 will be on analog, and that where they find me if I am monitoring the radio at that time.
Anyone who wants to play around with a P25 unit please stop by my table and try one out.
