Are cell phones really this easy to monitor?

Most of that video is a load of crap. Forwarding of text messages or incoming/outgoing call logs requires installing malicious software on the phone. As for listening to call audio, notice how the guy was like 30 feet away (which happens to be the approximate max range of bluetooth). This means he is either "bluejacking" the stream between the phone and its wireless earpiece, or they had to previously install malicious software on the phone to stream handset audio over bluetooth.

yes it was all done via bluetooth here is why..

In the cheaper phones common is that bluetooth pairing is always on, and the code is always 0000 that looks like a cheap phone.

You can play with SMS and place and send calls with bluetooth.

You actually can hijack cell phone calls however I would be brazen enough to say that any "hacker" that is doing this would never f' around and torment someone with "I am the reaper" unless they just paid some other hacker to clone the numbers. (but again that's a lot of money to torment someone and the bluetooth hack sticks even with the number change they did with the provider)

People who do have the balls, money and time to hijack cell calls normally do it for better financial gain like identity theft. be warned that the day of the cell phone privacy is IMO at a end. more and more occurrences of hackers modding phones to hijack phone SID's are occurring.

I actually give presentations on just this topic in the local corporate arenas and some times at local hacker conventions :) you cant miss me because I pack around a Honda Stereo from a forerunner that I hijack.

In security topic never leave your cell phone in "paring mode" if you don't have bluetooth then shut it off you will get better battery life. and for god sakes don't use the password 1111 2222 0000 3333 1234 its still 'possible' to man in the middle and hijack a bluetooth session so in the end remember ....keep information you deem confidential on copper only - wireless is always I REPEAT ALWAYS doomed to attack.

Other news I really like how the Ford SYNC uses bluetooth, it will pair with your phone and create a 8 digit random pairing code, cool!

Personally I recommend a STU-III to keep your conversations on copper truly confidential.

So if it was being done with bluetooth how can the reporter on that Youtube clip
hear her cell phone from 4 miles away ? :roll:

I looked up some of the companies shown in the clip and they may shed some light
on the subject.

in the case of that 4 mile away, they would be using the service where the phone is bugged with software, this threat is there sure has been for a while but the practice side is then in question. I can also do some REAL nasty things on your computer I just need to walk into your house and install some software. Sure you can get it from a virus but its not as easy on a Cell as most of the cells out there have little to no exploits (today).

But all the same, I gotta get your phone hack it then get it back to you functioning. If you have people like that after you like the kikendalls your prolly gonna get f'd somehow anyway. Sure you can put a password on your phone or take out the battery but why, if they are trying to take your things to attack you something tells me they are going to go to great measures anyway if they went this far. Also they dont mention that normally services like this also need to communicate back to the home server, or cost lots of cash to work good. (which is why bluetooth hacks are for sure better from the anonymous hack that guy perspective)

so for instance take the GPS feature, the phone would need to upload that information constantly look for SMS messages to some strange number that you dont know. Or look for calls to a odd number constantly for the replay of the phone calls to other callers. none of this is black magic its just hacking a computer (your phone) to do something you dont want it to, welcome to the NWO of viruses and mailware problems. remember that next time you download a COOL app for your i-phone :)

BTW the services are not hidden they are easy to use and find... as I said in my last post cell phone privacy is dead (again, ...remember the 800mhz days...ahh I miss listening to dirty calls on the way home from work)

but again they arnt free and if someone is going to do a good job at watching you they are going to get you so why worry, be more concerned that your children are going to hook up with a dude on line, or that they are going to drink and drive. Be smart and your going to have less of a risk, dont be a kikendall and ignore the obvious signs of someone hacking your crap. remember its the media and they tell the part of the story that keeps you watching, what they dont tell you is over 3 years they had 200$ cell bills and also accidentally killed the neighbors dog causing them to hate them.


haha yes if I only had the cash to buy a few to give to everyone I make calls with :)

In a cheaper note check out PGP Voice software project that was sort of defunked a few years back.
