I'm working on the database so it might be acting a little goofy for a while.

While doing a frequency lookup from my cellphone I noticed that most of my screen was filled with blank space due to the "callsign" and "channel" fields not being used much. So what I'm doing is getting rid of those fields and moving the callsign and channel info into the general notes area. We will still have the same info but it will be a lot more efficient on screen space. While I'm at it, I'm also moving trunk talkgroup numbers over to the "Frequency" column. This makes sense as Frequencies and Talkgroups are mutually exclusive, not to mention the frequency or talkgroup is the main index and belongs in the left column anyways. Talkgroups will have a "T" in front of them so they are easy to distinguish.

I guess I kinda epically failed on my database merge, huh?

Sorry about that.

No big deal. I think the database will be a lot easier to maintain once I mop it up. Its also a lot more screen-friendly this way. Another thing in the works is text and csv options for the search output. Makes it easier to store the output on your computer or cellphone.

It has a ways to go yet. Theres about 25 years of info in that database from my original records plus everything contributed since. Too many fields with too little info, so I'm moving the callsign and channel fields into the notes section. The map search is in the process of a major overhaul and the per-county pages will probably include embedded frequency database info rather than static text or being served from a link. Theres a test sample at the end of the King Co page. Embedding things 3 levels deep is a little messy so I'm still optimizing the code.

The upper left mouse over now has something there! I know the link has hiding there for a long time. You must have a lot of spare time lately, hand coding/ recoding the site.

Well a little spare time... Just finished putting BC and Alberta on the map so now its possible to click on them and bring up some frequency listings.

I'm going to research the FCC database and get the western part of the Montana State Patrol and USFS stuff on there.
I haven't seen anyone on here from MT or AK.
Wonder if we could expand to AK.
This will be an experiment; add MT data and see if scanner hobbiest register from the 'Big Sky'.

Cool deal. So far the database is primarily built from confirmed-usage frequencies. Please tag them as unconfirmed if you haven't actually heard it on the air (I usually put an asterisk before the description). Otherwise our database will end up being a mirror of the FCC data.

I've got stuff from western Montana, as well as a complete radio read-out from a Ketchikan, AK radio. Will submit as time allows.

Might it be worth putting the "confirmed status" in its own field? Then you could filter the search results more easily.

I do like this idea.
A field for confirmed, maybe include date and by whom?

I already have fields for date and username. Yesterday I changed it such that these fields are automatically updated. I would prefer not to create yet another field when something can be simply tagged with an asterisk. Keep in mind there are already hundreds of entries using this format. The other issue is the data entry is much more tolerable when you don't have to tab through a zillion fields.

The database as it was had too many fields and now its finally getting to the point where its format is simple and more usable.

I updated Ferry county with confirmed fields and it was simple.
Simple is good.
