Fire Departments

<A HREF="../files/US/WA/firdst_resp_zones_fin.pdf">King Co. Fire districts & response zone map</A>

History of King County Fire Districts/Departments. FIRE DISTRICTS King County Fire District #1 Duwamish Originally formed as the Duwamish Fire Department on May 22, 1932. Became King County Fire District #1 on July 21, 1935, the first fire district in both King County and the State of Washington. Fire District #1 contracted for service with Tukwila in 1986 and was annexed into the City of Tukwila in March of 1989.

King County Fire District #2 Burien Originally formed as the Burien Volunteer Fire Department in 1923. Became King County Fire District #2 on January 9, 1939. District #2 answered calls in the community of Normandy Park. In the 1950's Normandy Park became a city and contracted with Fire District #2 for service. Today the cities of Burien and Normandy Park are annexed into King County Fire District #2. Shares Battalion 18 with Fire District #11 White Center.

King County Fire District #3 Lake City(False Start) Vote was taken April 4th, 1939 but failed to meet the three-fifths of the votes needed to pass. If passed would have covered the communities of Lake City, Victory Heights, Morningside, Maple Leaf and Sunrise.

King County Fire District #4 Shoreline Formed September 1939. Today the city of Shoreline is annexed into King County Fire District #4

King County Fire District #5A Lake City Formed March of 1940. Included the original communities that Fire District #3 would have included but also added Haller Lake, Polk and Van Buren. Fire District #5A was annexed into the City of Seattle on July 19, 1954.

King County Fire District #5B Roosevelt Formed March 12, 1940. Fire District #5B was annexed into the City of Seattle on July 1, 1954.

King County Fire District #6 Earlington Formed December 4, 1939. No action was ever taken to have an active department. There was no equipment, personnel, and no stations. In 1950 some of the population of District #6 decided that the best way to go would be to annex to the City of Renton but some did not share that idea. The City of Renton took over the ones that did and the balance annexed to Fire District #20 in September 1950.

King County Fire District #7 Enumclaw/Rural Vote was taken on September 24, 1940 but failed to meet the required votes and no district was formed. Would have covered the communities of Lincoln, Madison, Birch, Boise, Cumberland, Krain, Usceola, and Wabash.

King County Fire District #8 Greenwood Formed April 7, 1941. Fire District #8 was annexed into the City of Seattle in January 1954.

King County Fire District #9 Crown Hill Formed June June 2, 1941. Fire District #9 was annexed into the City of Seattle on January 1, 1954.
