San Juan County Police 453.250 (tone 118.8) San Juan county sheriff dispatch WLH20 San Juan Island (District 1) unit 101, 102, 104, 106, 107, 108, 109 Boat 1 Orcas Island (District 2) unit 201, 202, 203, 204, 252 Boat 2 Lopez Island (District 3) unit 302, 303 Notes: unit S1 is the sheriff units Z1, Z2, Z3, and Z4 are detectives Some dispatching is done by pager and cell phone. Clearing code 6H means a citation was issued. From what I can tell, 6D is for a warning. Code 4 = status ok Other codes: 6C, 6G, Code 1, Code 23, Code 24 453.250 is also used by Port Angeles & Mercer Island. Use CTCSS (if your radio is capable) to filter them out. I've heard unit 109 operating from an airplane a few times. Fisherman Bay Road (Lopez) is a popular place for traffic stops. Don't speed there ! Here are some comments from Troy Emmerson What you can expect to hear: The sheriffs department is rather covert about their open transmissions, giving little to no detail information unless it's extremely urgent. Most traffic heard on radio is routine traffic stops. Most deputies utilize cellular phones or return to the station for routine dispatches. Most traffic heard will be related to Friday Harbor which is the county seat. Unit numbers/badge numbers are three digits long and are arranged by island and purpose. First digit is the district or island 1=San Juan Island, 2=Orcas Island, 3=Lopez Island, 4=Shaw Island. Second digit is usually 0, a 5 is a reserve deputy. The last digit is the deputy number, I have yet to hear a number higher than 8, but it's possible that in the near future they may add more deputies. Other unit identifiers are 1-Sam-1 for the Sheriff and 1-Sam-2 for the under-sheriff, also Zebra-3 for the detective (yes only one currently). Dispatches are voice marked with the Calling Unit Number and the unit number being called, dispatch is simply San Juan. Dispatch will end or confirm receipt of a transmission by announcing the unit number and the time in 24 hour (usually about 1-2 minutes behind any standard clock source). Lastly, it's not uncommon to not hear anything from the sheriff for 2-3 hours or more straight, sometimes it's just a slow day, so don't think your scanner is broke just 'cause nothings happening.
