The Funcube Dongle is a USB SDR (Software Defined Radio) receiver. It covers 64-1700 mhz. There is a variety of software programs available to use with it (HDSDR, SDR-Radio, Spectra-Vue, WRPlus).
There are a few HF converters available which will add coverage for 0-64mhz. I recently received the "FCD HF Converter 3.0" from Tony CT1FFU. It works great however it did not have a protective case. I found that it fits perfectly in a Tic-Tac container if you cut the container down a bit, file the lid, and drill two holes in the bottom. Here are some pictures:
