I've talked to Gene B4 so just posting some info on the Navy system in Everett, just updating from previous posts.

Navy Everett is a 4-channel Moto Type II system. Activity is pretty light. Lots of OPS Normal messages among security folks. The local newspaper reports the base commander's policy is to stop and search every other outgoing automobile so there's been a fairly good 'hit' rate among expired tabs, licenses, some narcotics stuff, etc. It appears they only have one fire engine. Several talkgroups are related to transporting folks around the base and fueling the various ships in port. They probably have some encrypted mode but it isn't ASTRO and it doesn't cause the trunking scanners to follow it. Only hint of encryption is some of the logging done by the trunker program logs into the ID and TG database the necessary bits to show some units and TGs using DES encryption.

The carrier Lincoln left Everett last week for a 6-month re-fit at Bremerton. Its four-channel trunking system is all ASTRO digital. I've never heard plain voice. Both the ship and Everett trunking systems are really low power. For example, Navy Everett doesn't come alive in my mobile until N-bound I-5 somewhere north of the Boeing freeway and the Broadway exit.

: I'd like to chat with anyone who has successfully tracked the trunks at Ft. Lewis or Everett. AFIK, Everett may be digital but I've heard F3 emissions on 408.150 with Ft. Lewis fire traffic and other non-fire traffic, so their trunk is analog.

: Anybody...?
