*****Groundbreaking for the new Valley-Com happened about a month ago. They are about a year away from moving to the new building. I have a friend who is a dispatcher who just gave me a tour of the current old building...saw the plans for the new one...a palace in comparision. They are already testing some new procedures for fire dispatch at Valley Com...on Wednesday they used Fire One only for primary dispatch, all other traffic and incidents were moved to Fire 2 and when needed Fire 3. The thought is that when you add in the South Com departments to the current VC departments, Fire 1 will nearly always be busy just dispatching calls. That might mean Fire 2 will be open all hours (it is now only open 12n-10p, I believe) and perhaps a Fire 3 console would be on during the overload hours. South Com will not merge into Valley Com, Federal Way, which owned Southcom, is disbanding it and buying into Valley Com. (Which is owned by Kent, Auburn & Renton) The word is some South com employees will work at other Fed Way fire dept jobs, but the others would not go to Valley com.

: ** My understanding was that once the Valley-Comm communcations center was expanded (moved to a new location?), VCC and South Comm would merge.... I heard this years ago, I wonder if it's finally coming about.

: : I just posted regarding this about five days ago...
: : FWFD has changed its numbers to 60's and I have made this list:
: : C900-B61
: : E911-E61
: : E912-E62
: : A932-A62
: : E964-E64
: : E915-E65
: : E916-E66
: : Pretty straight-forward as for the conversion. Next thing you know, they'll be dispatched on Fire-1- can't wait.

:
: : : It appears that recently the fire departments dispatched by South Com (Federal Way, Sea-Tac and North Highline) have changed their apparatus numbers. It appears as though they have gone from three digit to two digit designators. Can anyone provide what new unit numbers apply to what departments. If anyone can provide a cross reference showing old unit numbers compared to new unit numbers. If I obtain further information I will post it on this site.
: : : Many thanks - Wayne
