: A Battalion Chief. There's 5 operations battalion chiefs (2,4,5,6,7), one safety battalion chief (Safety 2), and one EMS battalion chief (3) in Seattle.

: : so, then, what is a battalion?

A Battalion Chief is a the commanding officer in a givin area. For example Battlion 6 stationed at station 17 (50th ave N.E.and Roseavelt Way)is Battalion Chief for Norteast Seattle (Lk Wash Ship Cannel noth to City limmites, and LK Wash west to Auora Ave N). And responds on all responses of any seriousness in that area, as the commanding officer. Some Battalion chiefs respond with specialty unites i.e. Battalion 7 and unite 99 marine fire unite and Battalion 5 and unites 87, 88, 89 and Rescue 14 (rescue unites). On Multiple response alarms one additional Battlion Chief is dispatched on the 2nd and 3rd alarms(211 and 311 responsances) also portables 89 (assitant fire chief) and 234 (Fire Chief) are notified and may respond as well.
