Seems like the Cencom fire frequencies have become so faint they won't even break squelch. Cencom police work fine, and other radios don't have a problem. Anyone have an idea why? I'm currently trying different antennas, RTFM, etc.

Sounds like an issue on their end if the rest of the stuff is fine.

Kitsap911? This is the amateur radio forum btw..

(not Cencom anymore.)

If so LE is repeated on most of their channels. Fire is only repeated on f-2. Rest are simplex.

If a guy were about to buy a receiver like this one, would you buy the TRX or a different make / model?

Asking for a dude

I guess I forgot they were renamed a couple of years ago, thanks. The dispatchers still refer to cencom constantly, tho.
I posted here because I noticed the posts were more recent and I was hoping for a reasonably rapid reply--which I did get, thanks.
As for the TRX-1, I bought it because it seemed to have a more sensitive receiver than the 436. I run it 12 hours a day on a USB charger, batteries removed. Works fine. I think the initial programming is excruciatingly difficult, but once it's done, it's done.
I am starting to think my reception problem is a matter of antenna orientation, as chpalmer mentioned, Fire1 is simplex.

That would depend on what the person is trying to monitor/listen. The TRX-1 will receive DMR,P25 (trunked and non trucked), NXDN and IDAS if I read the specifications correctly. They won't, however, receive DSTAR, or Fusion. So it would depend on the application the person getting the receiver is wanting to monitor. I know ICOM receivers will be able to hear DSTAR but, not Fusion. Not sure about P25, NXDN or IDAS. I don't think they can listen to DMR or Trunked radio systems digital or analog, assuming I am reading the product brochure right.

Good Luck
