I'm tempted just to try in old school TV antenna pointed to the bustling crime riddled metropolis of Spokane.

Plucked from Spokesman Review:

Quote:
...Two of the three suspects were nearly arrested early last Thursday, but a new police radio system that hasn’t been fully integrated allowed them to get away, said police Chief Brian Asmus. A Washington State Patrol trooper spotted a car driving oddly on Harvard Road at 4 a.m. last Thursday and attempted to pull it over. The car sped away and got in a wreck near Harvard and Euclid. The man and woman inside ran away as the trooper called for backup. Police are using a new digital radio system, but it hasn’t been set up to allow different agencies to talk to each other, Asmus said.

Inter-Op improvement.
Non.

Training issue.

SPD goes to LERN on multi-band radio.

Trooper goes to LERN on multi-band radio.

They talk. Rinse and repeat.

Jesus, did you really put the County on Wouxons? I thought that was a sick joke!

Hell no! But a CDM1550 is about 1/10th the cost of those multi band Motorolas I keep seeing around.

Well, newspaper quote so accuracy may be questionable.

Today I went to Spookane and the VHF was dead air.
At least the LE side, not sure/didn't monitor the fire side.

Bit the bullet and got a Uniden 436. Must say it sounds/performs nicer on P25 than my 396t. that said, the simulcast issue is still there but I've found I can listen to SPD/SCSO just fine off the Mt. Spokane site. Now i just need to figure out how to use this radio the best way. the 396 was nice for just searching and monitoring a single CC freq. Haven't figured out if the 436 will do that without me putting all the information for a system in yet.

Just to confirm, the old analog channels are not used anymore except the old SCSO ones are now fallback/mutual aid.

The high cost of the 436/536 is for that expensive vocoder! 8)

Just a note-
I was within range of this today.
Using a stock antenna with a 396, inside the cab, this system sounded really good.
It will be interesting to see what the county does with the legacy stuff.
