Heard my first bit of P25 in the Seattle area a night or two ago on 154.935 car-car

Add Colville 'Area' to the P-25 list.

This morning around 9:30AM WSP in Thurston County switched to State and LERN for about two hours. I heard the radio techs up on Capital Peak doing reception reports. Then 2 hours later Thurston County went back to area and Tacoma switched to State and LERN. As I'm posting this Pierce and Thurston are both back on area frequencies and still in analog. I've had my Pro-106 going all day and haven't heard any P25 as of yet (except Lewis Co) I'm assuming the NAC will be D10. Does anyone know if the units will finally be repeated after the switchover? I can only hear the Lewis Co dispatcher here in Oly so I'm assuming no, at least initially. I've always kinda liked the units being simplex. I use it to test antennas and it gives you an idea how close the units are.

Areas should come up as they were. No extra frequencies laying around right now.

Gotcha, thanks for the quick reply. So being that they're simplex can I expect to get less range, especially in a fringe area? Excuse the dumb question. I haven't been exposed to many simplex digital frequencies, mostly trunked and repeated. :stupid:

Expect nothing, and be surprised. Sometimes P25 carries much better than analog, you just can't guess when. All the base stations and repeaters should have adequate coverage, mobiles should be fine if they're close enough to care about, and the audio quality will be even worse than a crappy digital cell phone.

Excellent, thank you for the reply. I've been pretty excited and anxiously awaiting the switchover to finally get more use out of my 106.

My results have been worse, with both a Astro Saber and a 396xt. I say a few miles for a mobile. Have no idea what a handheld will do. I did talk on my own portable to a mobile and got maybe 1-2 miles from inside a house.

Well I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I've been listening to WSP in Lewis Co without any problems. Heard P25 on Car1 today with a NAC of D30 from here in Oly. Not bad if it's all the way from District 3

Could be a local test by a tech.

That's what I'm beginning to think. Right after there were a few short P25 bursts on the Thurston Co frequency.

P25 testing on Thurston Co this morning. Test counts and lots of "hellos." NAC showed D10 as expected. Back to analog now.

WSP Tacoma/W Pierce Co is P25, NAC D10. Signal is weak in Thurston County. I can pick up Lewis better than Pierce.

EDIT: Also testing on East Pierce as well. Test counts and reception reports.
