I know I was out of touch with civilization for awhile, but have payphones gone wireless? There's a payphone with a rubber ducky antenna sprouting out the top of the mounting area on the corner right across from my building, the southeast corner of 1st and Marion in Seattle. What gives :?:

:D :D Disconnect it -- or tamper with the telephone or antenna -- in any way -- and you could find yourself in a Federal or State Prison. Keep your hands off of things that are not yours. --- Yes -- it's a normal everyday cellphone. It can be located without the need for hardwire. PS: Do you think it might have something to do with "drugs, drug dealers or drug users" ???? MTM

Wilrobnson, we must both work in the same block. I noticed this specific antenna also and was curious what it was. One of my guesses was that it provides a link to the new parking "paystations" that were installed to replace the parking meters. As I understand it, these paystations communicate with some sort of central computer for credit card verification and trouble reporting. I think it is also possible to change the parking rates at all stations remotely.

The antennas on the payphones appeared about the time the new paystations were installed. Just a guess...

That'd make sense...I've never really paid any attention to the parking stations....I'm thinking about taking the Scout for a walk tomorrow for lunch.
