This was a good one, just popped up on King5.
Wonder what systems he had access to through this unit?
And who in the heck could have sold it to him?

The radio had a refurb kit on it with the protetive stickers still on. The seller was probably the 3rd set of hands on it since it had been stolen, didn't know the significance of the programming and blew some generic stuff into it for sale. Just speculation though.

Radio was brand new- it'd been through several different people. I bought it off ebay held on to it for 6 months and sold it. I called Jesse over at King 5 and asked him to ge the facts straight before they run a story like that. I bought and sold the radio in good faith- I'm just as much a victim as the final owner was. NCIS found me through the company I bought the radio from, and found mr Johnson after I turned my records over to them.

The man they interviewed (Rawland Johnson) purchased the radio, then attempted a charge back when he couldn't hear Ft. Lewis / McChord on the radio. Mind you I never mentioned one word about programming. To make a long story short, mr Johnson felt this "Marine Corps" radio should come programmed from the factory to listen to all military bases.

I told him "I can't be responsible for an uneducated (you) buyer." I went on to say "$2500 is a lot of money to throw around on something you know little about." I ended up programming in a few conventional frequencies for receive only and he dropped the chargeback.

I'm not sure what mr Johnson does for a living- but he does have red/blue LED lights on his pickup and claims to be a Police K9 officer (that's what the windbreaker/hat/T-Shirt all said

I love how KING-5 mentioned "the seller of the radio has not been arrested..." That's because he didn't do anything wrong :D

I should add that the radio was empty when I received it. It was purchased from ebay user "CES TECHNOLOGY" a large surplus powerseller. Many batlabs members purchased them as well- CES had 50 for sale at one point.

Paypal is giving me the run-around now- I've asked for my money back from the seller (CES) and they (paypal) keep dismissing my claims. Eh, time to lawer up I guess :?

Heck, I offered this radio for sale on the board

I saw this on KGW (K5's sister station of course) down here and of course, did think of you for a second. But I know there had to be more to the story.

Poo(h)Poo(h) PlatePosted by Ian Demsky @ 06:32:54 pm Rawland Johnson, of Dupont, called to let us know his daughter's vanity plate isn't as naughty as we thought. Her plate POOPOO was highlighted in a recent story about vanity plates.

"When she was a little kid, she used to call Winnie the Pooh 'poo-poo'," he said.

We plucked the plate out of a giant database we got from the state, but if you saw the car, you'd see she had a Pooh license plate holder, seat covers, decals, etc., Johnson said.

Other family members have plates paying homage to Piglet, Tigger and Mickey Mouse, he said.

What an idiot.

If the rumors are true about what bubba does to a cop in jail,
I wonder what bubba does to a "wannabe" cop, who obviously couldn't make the cut. And at 53 years old! isn't it time to QUIT playing cops & robbers?

What a waste. For a few hundred less he could have put the BCT15 in instead and still heard everything he needed to.

A BC15 will not work for the P25 stuff he wanted to hear, so why waste the $250.00 on an inferior legacy unit. He claimed to work at McChord AFB, and wanted to hear them, and Ft Lewis. That is why he bought the Motorola XTS2500 that started this thread.

Ah. All I saw was PCSO and various PDs in the greater Tacoma area.

Is this one legit? If it doesn't go over a certain price I might be interested...

Hey ! Looks like a good unit -- even if I don't like EFJ. Wonder if someone forgot to turn in their field radio upon return from the war ?
