They could of just picked up a underperfomer for a lot less than shoehorning a perfect null away from 730 and 750. Pamplin must have some grand ideas. http://radiodiscussions.com/smf/index.p ... c=233604.0 |

If this refers to the old application for 740 Khz -- Redmond, WA -- that application - appears to be DOA. Not yet dismissed - but there has been no action in TEN YEARS on this "CR" Canadian Restricted channel. 740 Belongs to Canada. The proposed site location is a mile north of the city limits of Carnation - in a gully / bog area near Horseshoe Lake -- just west of the Carnation - Duvall Rd NE. But - since the site is on County Land -- the site is NOT likely to be available for use or permitted by the County rules. KARR 1460 Kirkland is now "silent" and is looking for a new location -- as is KBLE AM 1050 Seattle. Both could end up in the Bellevue "Mercer Slough" area along with 880, 1150 and 1540 AM stations. This site was once home to KFKF 1330 AM back in the early 1960's --just before Mr. KF KF -- Kemper Freeman bought the CP for KBVU 1540 -- and moved over to the new full time frequency. In fact -- the 1050 station started out being licensed to first serve Kirkland. |

KBLE uses the same tower in West Seattle as KKDZ for it's daytime signal, but KBLE doesn't switch sites at night it only reduces power. KKDZ DOES switch to the same site that KARR uses for it's night pattern. I also read an earlier reference to KYAC, but that was 1250 AM too, not 1450 as someone mentioned here. |

No. My info is NEW and correct. KBLE 1050 uses the old 1590 AM tower in West Seattle -- just a block away from the 1250 Daytime tower. There are two AM towers - on 21st SW -- just a block apart from each other. Not one. And 1250 does use a night time tower system on the eastside, shared with the 1460. However -- KBLE is also looking to move to the EASTSIDE -- fulltime and give up the West Seattle location. Both towers in West Seattle -- for 1050 and 1250 -- will soon be comming down as well. KYAC were the former call sign of the YAKima AM station on 1460 -- the Co-channel with the 1460 Kirkland Station. Heck -- I have a hard time remembering all of this stuff -- and I have been at it -- since I took a radio class taught by Marconi. LOL |

LOL Well, I have lived in West Seattle over 55 years, just a few blocks from the KKDZ/KBLE site and I can ASSURE you there is only ONE 64 meter tower there, not 2. If you are going by the coordinates, the position shown for KBLE is WRONG! THERE IS NO TOWER in that physical location. Take a drive and see for yourself....OR look for it on Google Earth. Only one tower on 21st Ave SW.... |

RE KKDZ former call signs (KKFX AND KYAC) I remember them well, because the station came through every piece of electronic gear I owned, so I heard the station IDs ALL the time!!!!

Maybe That is why KBLE AM is looking to move east. |

Only one tower on 21st Ave SW.... It was that site and the old Alaska Communications site in West Seattle that sparked my interest in radio a good 40 years ago. Ya, one tower on 21st. And with respect to the Alska Communications site, I used to work a HAM in Rochester on 7.06, Fred K7OVN. He was paralyzed at that site working on the old wooden poles. A truly wonderful man. I stopped to see him a few times. I believe he is SK now. |

I knew Fred when I first got my ticket, he was on the Baw Faw machine pretty much 24/7. He moved out of his place on Albany Street in Rochester probably 1995 or 6 and built a new QTH around Chehalis but I think he's been a SK for 12 or so years. |

Ya I worked him on that site pretty much everytime I drove through. He would look out for my (now ex) wife when she drove through as well. I remember his old place, I stopped by to move some radios from his trunk a couple times. I remember he built the new place but never went there. I also would run into him at Seaside on occasion. I thought he went SK around '04, or '05? |

Just to get back - on topic -- there was a second tower on 21st SW. The old - first 1590 AM tower was just a block away from the 1250 AM tower. This was the Daytime tower for 1590 AM back - in 1970. Later -- 1590 added night service from Bainbridge Island and later still -- moved operations for both Day + Night -- over to the Island. |

No, I'm sure 1590 was on the tower that 1250 is on now. It was owned by Sterling Recreation (Who owned the string of SRO theatres) and 1590 was one of their stations. After 1590 moved full time to Bainbridge, 1250 moved in. When 1050 lost it's lease on Port of Seattle property near Harbor Avenue, they diplexed on the SRO tower. The original call sign on the tower was KTW. Pat O'Day bought the old KXA 770 and moved it to this tower too, but then sold it and it was moved to Maury Island. Sterling Recreation became Sterling Realty and recently reached an agreement to sell the West Seattle tower (to ATC I believe). |

In all due respect, google earth (and my growing up near that 'hood) shows only one tower, and only one location for a tower, unless you are referring to the Alaska Comm site. There is no possible site within a several block run along 21st that would allow for a broadcast tower. A block north is old time residential. A block south is the triangle where 23rd / 22nd comes up from Delridge on a diagonal and intersects with 21st. I tell you what, I will wager a copy of your oldest book on this! Hows that?  |
