I'm toying with the idea to dedicate an old tower for TV duties.
The HDTV has native VGA. I have a wireless keyboard/mouse not doing anything.
It would be for streaming movies/ shows and quick web reference.
Anyone here do this yet?

yea .. when you say "old" your likely in trouble to do anything cool with it

I reallllly like windows 7 media center its wife friendly, so that is very important

Otherwise I have done every version of linux and windows media center out there.. personally I love the new media center from windows it never fucks up it just works and there is a lot of cool content in it...

I use XBMC with a DVI/HDMI cable. The DVI connection is much clearer than VGA, if you have it.

I have this setup on a 52" TV. Originally set it up with DVI but it looked too "contrasty". Nice sharp picture with VGA. Funny thing though as DVI looks better than VGA on the desktop PC's.

Make sure you run some video card and CPU horsepower as slower computers will have a lag between the audio and video. Looks like an old kung fu movie when people are talking. I set this up with my retired Pentium D 945 and it works great.

I've hooked up the netbook (N270) and it seems to run OK, until I try both screens, then it acts like it's out of memory/buffering.
Maybe I'll build a new one just for this purpose.

I would recommend that

also as taco said XBMC is rad, but more rad if you "get movies from unknown places"

if your 100% legit or want to DVR live TV I recommend windows media center

Movies from unknown places? Me?
I would never use a bit torrent or use Vuse or anything of the sort.

I'll need a couple Tb's for the HD.
