On Friday, KUOW aired a program that featured Steve Talge (Radio Steve) and Tana Granack, the curator of the American Museum of Radio in Bellingham. The archive can be found at http://www.kuow.org/program.php?id=18613. Many of you may remember Steve from his Seattle storefront of 30 years, the Old Technology Shop. I kind of have a love / hate relationship with Steve. He's a great resource when your fixing vintage radios, but he always seams to get under my skin. Tana on the other hand is a very stand up dude. I've even donated to his LPFM efforts. He in fact is a member of our group, although he hasn't voiced himself in a while :( 73 |

Thanks for the heads up Marcus. I feel very lucky to have the American Museum of Radio and Electricity in my home town. I can remember when John started it up years ago. It has turned in to a world class facility. If anyone on the forum is ever in Bellingham be sure to check it out. You can find it on the web at http://www.amre.us/ with all the info as far as location and hours. |

(It's Von Talge. Steve would get upset if one was not precise.)I went in there plenty and bought quite a bit of stuff. I re-tubed a R390 Collins (that's right- no "A") through him (other than the ballast tube) and bought some photo stuff, too. I gather his real expertise is in old audio gear. The Old Technology Shop was a nice stop on my Saturday morning trapline but I really don't miss it. I bet Steve makes more money with less hassle by doing it via phone/e-mail now. |
