The FCC has granted KMCQ - 104.5 Covington a CP to relocate to Cougar Mtn and upgrade to class C-2 -- with an ERP of 8 KW. Lot better coverage over Everett. KAFE Bellingham to move from 104.3 to 104.1 and "Shore FM" Vancouver, BC will move from 104.1 to 104.3. A Tit for Tat swap. KBCB FM in Forks, WA. has already moved from 103.9 A to 96.7 A. The old KMCQ FM site on Radio Hill just east of Enumclaw would make a good two-way site again. |

The very best thing that the FCC could do -- is to take the lower VHF TV channels -- 2 through 6 , and "re-allot" the 54 to 88 Mhz spectrum to FM Broadcasting -- and move most of the AM Broadcast stations over to the new FM band. Then restrict AM stations to a Minimum full time power of at least 1,000 watts -- day and night. There is no longer a need for "daytime only" AM stations. (And yes -- I know that there would be a "gap" between 72-76 Mhz). But it would also provide room for new local area -- low power "community fm" stations all over the US and in EVERY Large "Metro" city like Seattle, Los Angeles and New York. It would also make the "AM Band" listen-able again. MTM |

When I was stationed in Japan I noticed the FM stations were on 76 to 90 MHz. According to wikipedia... "In March 2008, the FCC requested public comment on turning the bandwidth currently occupied by analog channels 5 and 6 (76–88 MHz) over to extending the FM broadcast band when the digital television transition is completed in February 2009.[1] This proposed allocation would effectively assign frequencies corresponding to the existing Japanese FM radio service (which begins at 76 MHz) for use as an extension to the existing North American FM broadcast band." |

I believe KAFE has their transmitter on Orcas Is. |

I hear that everyone has already moved -- or are in the process of relocating. The 104.5 has gone silent -- and also in the process of moving the equipment up to Cougar Mtn. 104.5 will be located on the old "KRAB 107.7" tower that was shared with 94.1, 102.5 and 107.7 before most moved elsewhere. The newer tower next door has atleast one or more UHF TV stations (TBN, etc). I have used this site before -- myself. Good coverage -- and even a better shot and coverage into the Downtown Seattle/Tacoma areas as well as along the sound shoreline areas. It covers better into the lower levels -- than Tiger Mtn. The 104.5 and the 104.9 (That I had the FCC drop in) both covered South Seattle and Tacoma well. They may not be Big money makers -- but they can or will provide another radio signal into a Market Area that can be "as dull as a farmer from Britt, Iowa". (Sorry BHT, it was a joke) |

Mike, what happened to the KXXO site on Rooster Rock, is it no more? |

The present site is on Rooster Rock -- about halfway between Centralia-Chehalis and Morton. KXXO has an Auxilary back up site near Tenino. KXXO also has a CP to relocate the Main site from Rooster Rock to South Mtn - north of Shelton - where all of the other "Move ins" are located. South Mtn and Tiger Mtn are just over 65 miles (105 KM) from each other. That's the distance that the FCC requires class C stations to be spaced from each other -- ( ie: 95.7 to 96.1, 96.1 to 96.5). Other Stations on South Mtn are 99.3 KDDS-FM, 97.7 Komo-FM, 96.1 KXXO and an application for 93.7 KANY. |
