Interesting to see this done on a primary analog frequency. Usually AM news has been an "add-on" to a secondary FM digital channel. One thing I like about KOMO-AM though, the car radio picks it up pretty good after dark in Los Angeles. |

yeah, I was in Death Valley circa 1986 and picked up KOMO. I think they are following KIRO' lead. KSL in Salt Lake does the same thing. Was wondering what kind of deal they made with the "Eagle" in Olympia, since it won't be a classic rocker anymore. It may have better fill in coverage than KIRO 97.3, hence the idea. |

I pick it up at night here in Spokane too. I always like spinning the AM dial at night. 1510 KGA used to have good night coverage. Until it was bought out, format changed to all sports and night power reduced. Something about a competitor bought it. |

KMPH news radio used to have an FM all news channel in Fresno. It was pretty showy and sounded really good. I dont see any thing about it any more though... Damn- and I like The Eagle too... :( Edit= all I can find really... http://www.ontheradio.net/radiostations/kmphfm.aspx The owners of KMPH filed for bankruptcy earlier so probably a casualty. Edit2= Spanish now... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KRDA It was really quite entertaining as a news station though... |

LOL -- LOL -- That's classic. KOMO - WAS one of the first stations to receive an FM license / CP (construction permit) ( I think it was 98.9 mhz) back in the 1950's. KOMO never built the FM station -- because there was not enough FM radios or listeners back then. 97.7 is a "Move In" from the South Bend / Raymond area. CBS has started to add FM news stations around the US -- in markets that they have big AM news stations. As for KGA -- the present owners, Mapleton BC also owns a station near San Francisco -- on 1510 and lowered the night-time power of KGA -- to allow the bay area station to have night-time operations. I once worked at KASK -- 1510 in Ontario, California. 10 KW days and only 1 KW nights -- but it was a hot AM rocker back in the '60's. also worked at KBLA - 1500 Burbank and 1520 KACY, Ventura. That's when AM was cool. As for KMPH having a FM "all news" station -- that's one that I don't remember. What was the Frequency ??? |

Have to admit, KOMO found a better transmitter. KIRO' 97.3 signal is worse to the south. |

KIRO-FM should have the best "over-all signal" from Tiger Mtn -- near Issaquah. KOMO-FM 97.7 -- is located on South Mtn -- in Mason County - northwest of Shelton. Great site but not as much signal over the eastside King County area or Snohomish County. In the "real world" -- both signals should cover the metro Seattle-Tacoma area. KIRO AM 710 has great coverage both day & Night but KOMO AM 1000 has by far the best night-time coverage. KIRO - AM has to protect a lot more stations. KIRO-FM may pick up better ratings during the "day parts" and maybe at night but KOMO - "AM" may get better ratings at night - due to the better AM night coverage. |

97.7 is licensed to serve the city or "community" of Oakville. The FCC requires broadcast stations to serve a "COL" Community of License and commercial FM stations must provide a 70 dBu contour over the entire COL. Educational FM stations only need provide a 60 dBu contour over the COL. A full class "C" FM station could be located as far away as 40 miles from the COL. And Yes - I am a broadcast engineer as well as a two way dude. |

I miss The Eagle. MTM is right, the 97.7 coverage is solid south of Seattle, but sucks, quite frankly, even at Southcenter. Get's "a little" better in Downtown proper - some days, but overall does not cover the bulk of the apparent intended market. South Mtn is great for the South Sound area, but not much north or east of the Airport (Seatac). I miss the Eagle |

KOMO FM -- 97.7 is located on South Mountain -- just NW of Shelton in Mason County. The Mason County SO has a repeater on 460.225 (R) on top of the site as well as the County PUD on 48.36 (R) a very good clear - clean channel and the County Fire/EMS has a base station on the hilltop using 154.19, 154.37 and the HEARS channel: 155.34. The State Dept of Corrections has a repeater on South Mtn as well. 868.1375 (R). The DNR has two repeaters: 159.315 (R) & 159.3825 (R) on South Mtn. If you can hear KOMO-FM -- 97.7 in Oregon or along the Columbia River -- That's a dame good signal. The signal would be way beyond the normal 60 dBu "primary" contour signal and maybe even past the 48 dBu "stereo contour" limit. |
