Looks like no major stations in Seattle/Portland/Los Angeles will be shutting down analog today.

ABC/NBC/PBS will be shutting down analog in the Spokane / Yakima / Tri-Cities areas.

I prefer the Indian Head. Unfortunately I doubt there are any operational Monoscopes at TV stations anymore.

All those funky markings etched into the Monoscope were very useful back in the days when TV transmitters had to be constantly adjusted due to tube degradation.

This is probably a dumb question but what are the VHF freqs that the analog channels were on going to be used for?

Most or all of the digital channels are on UHF aren't they?

Most VHF stations were loaned UHF channels so they could simulcast prior to the transition. After the transition many of them will reclaim their VHF channels (more range for less power as compared to UHF). At least this should hold true for highband VHF channels 7-13. Talk around town says that lowband stations won't be going back. Of course channel 2 is the worst because it is the most prone to impulse noise from electrical motors. Impulse noise on analog simply means a few static lines across the screen. On digital it wreaks havoc because it drives the bit error rate up so high that the picture will intermittently freeze and have a lot of issues with pixellization artifacts roaming all over the screen. Personally I'd take the analog noise because at least the picture is still reasonably pleasant to view. Anyways channels 2 and 3 are probably toast and channels 4 through 6 are questionable at best. Of course the best use for the spectrum would be FM expansion as it would free up a lot of bandwidth for all those low power pirate stations. Whatever the case, I hope they don't put a bunch of digital crap down there and bleed a bunch of junk into the 72-76mhz band as it would terrorize remote-controlled aircraft, link transmitters, and airport marker beacons.

if you have cable then your really in for it... The FCC will actually be watching you now rather then you watching TV.

nothing cable wont loose analog for another 4-400 months depending on yoru provider and other influential factors.
