This stuff inevitably happens. Funny thing is the evolution of methods... Captain Midnight was sat-jacking. Max Headroom was STL-jacking. and I think this one was probably mux-jacking. Just guessing here, the cable operator probably gets the HD as an MPEG-2 stream delivered over fiber, runs it through a demux or cherry-picker, converts it to ASI video, runs it into a muxing digital QAM modulator, then down the cable it goes. All someone has to do is log into the QAM modulator and briefly remap the channels. Anyways, just a guess. |

Does anyone remember back in the 60's when the guy forgot to turn off the transmitter at the end of the broadcast day at a TV station and put on a porno to watch? It was on the air for about 3/4 of an hour before he discovered it was going out over the air. Only after he shut it off did the station get a bunch of phone calls :lol: Bob Newhart did a funny sketch of the incident on one of his comedy albums. |
