while we are posting about older antennas that have been around, I have never taken time to look at the what looks like antenna array in south bellevue west of the intersection of 90/405 its right behind the park and ride (if you still dont know i can take a picture or google map it, im lazy)

I assume its for NOAA or Marine as I know there is some of that in the area, however never actually took the time to go see what it is. I was stuck in traffic a week ago and had it on my list of adventures to finally solve. but im lazy.

If you're talking about the towers, I've always thought they were an AM station array - sitting in the marshlands gives a good ground plane. Otherwise, they're squeezed between hills so I wouldn't expect much at VHF.

If you can get the coordinates, we can search the FCC database.

You got it, Rich!

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/amq?list=0&facid=4629

Listed as Mercer Island - must have started back before Bellevue became a "big city".

OK. Since you asked -- that's get this correct. A total of 3 AM broadcasters use the same area. KIXI -- 880 now licensed to Mercer Island / Seattle -- is on the southend with 3 towers and 50 KW Days + 10 KW Nights. KIXI moved from 910 to 880. The center 3 towers are KKNW - 1150 - licensed to Seattle and operates with 10 KW Days + 6 KW Nights. KKNW was KAYO for many years and was located on 4th Avenue near Lander until new owners moved the station to it's present site. The 3 towers just a tad to the northwest are KXPA -- 1540. KXPA started out as KBVU ( on 1540 ) and was later bought out by the owners of KFKF 1330 (Kemper Freeman, Bellevue Bc.) - also in Bellevue. After the move from 1330 to 1540, KFKF later became KZAM and now KXPA.. KFKF was a 5 KW daytimer on 1330. KXPA is now 5 KW fulltime. The old KFKF was "on the air" back in 1964 ( on 1330 ) and the General Manager was talking to a friend in Alaska when the Great Good Friday Earthquake hit. KFKF was the first station to broadcast the news -- about the earthquake to the lower 48. And the 1540 -- had a receiver set to 453.45 -- The Bellevue PD (F-1) on all the time. You could listen to Police Calls while playing DJ.
