My employer equips us with both a Sprint Aircard and iPhone. Our clueless receptionist / phone plan guy thinks he wants to switch us over to using the "hotspot" feature of our iPhones rather than using Aircards for mobile data connectivity. This is for every-day (pretty much all day) mobile data usage. Personally, I have a bad feeling about this. We MUST be connected throughout the day for our work, and this just seems a little too convoluted / hokey for me. I am curious what other folks opinions of this idea are, particularly those familiar with reliability and ease of use (or lack thereof?) in using iPhone "hotspot" feature. I tether my DROID to my laptop all the time. We used to have a seperate air card. I really miss it. There are just times where I need both. But it did cut costs. |

1st things that come to mind. 1. Can you talk and connect at the same time? I can't on 3g but can on 4g. 2. Battery life will suffer greatly. |

Because they have millions of customers still willing to pay for phones that are exclusively CDMA?Apple did put an LTE radio in it, none of the carriers are doing voice over LTE yet. I don't understand why this is such a big deal; they're going to have to keep the CDMA switches to support everyone with the old phones, and unless they can steal some of that spectrum for the LTE equipment, doing voice over LTE is just going to tie up all the LTE channels which could be used for data instead. Although if they're trying to kill off CDMA like they did AMPS, I guess you gotta start somewhere.
