My Icom 27__ bit the dust. I'm looking for a dual (V/UHF) band mobile replacement. I use my mobile as one of my car scanners. So the feature I'm looking for is how easily can a frequency be locked out and back in. My current Icom is 3 clicks and a twist.
Currently no pref for new/used, or brand... Really looking for the one feature:)

Anyone own a Kenwood TH-V710G and have a opinion.

-much thanks!!!

Having owned both the D710GA and the V71A if you're solely concerned about your scanning issue then go with the V71A. The D710GA is a nice rig but it's expensive and needs a lot of configuration done presuming you want APRS and GPS configured. There's a lot of trial & error involved but Kenwood has some good documentation on APRS and the D710GA.

The V71A is solid radio on VHF & UHF. The radio transmits 50W on either band and the display can be mounted remotely if you wish. You can display VHF + VHF or UHF + UHF or VHF + UHF if you wish. It has a lot of flexibility in that regard.

The V71A can do memory scanning and then lockout a channel quickly. The D710GA is a little bit slower in this regard. Both units have 1000 memories.

My only complaint about the D710GA is that its built-in fan is a bit loud when doing APRS. It runs ALL the time and can be quite obnoxious. I removed the stock fan and put it a 3rd party "silent" fan which was 1,000x better in terms of noise.

Those 1000 memories are in 10 banks and you can 'bank scan' too! I have a 710D and used to use the 900 bank to monitor the SO's and WSP, in the analog days, on my jaunts back and forth across the state.
