Any recommendations? Lots of cheap stuff flooding the market. Looking for a 136-174 and 400ish-470 HT that will do FPP and TX in those bands for a "technician's radio." Thanks! |

Yaesu VX-6R great radio at a great price. 7R is the best freeband HT around. Lots and lots of people are switching over to a Boefang or Wouxun, both less than $40.00 at Amazon. I own 20+ for rental, although most are the Wouxun with no display for $107.00. For rental radios the display and lots of buttons are only trouble... |

The Alinco DJ-500T is awesome just for that purchase. Simple to use and can be unlocked for full Tx. http://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-013307 |

I forgot to mention, it also needs to do 2.5 KHz channel steps. (i.e 157.4925) I like the Alinco and price but it doesn't so 2.5 KHz channel steps. |

Yes, it *does* support 2.5khz steps. It's one of the few HTs that do actually. http://universal-radio.com/catalog/ht/1656spec.html |

I must have been looking at the specs of the old model. Looks like you can also open up the TX freqs with software instead of a hardware mod? |

Well they plunked it down as one of the emission designators anyhow... |

Look at the Wouxun KG-UV6D radios. They will do 2.5 KHz steps. We had our TRS tech put it on a service monitor and was impressed with its performance. http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/ht/3006.html |
