There must be an easy way to operate an HT & pipe the audio into a brain-bucket.
Without it costing a wheel-barrel full of gold bars.
Anything new out these days?

It really depends on how much you have to spend. The cheapest solution is from Heil with their Traveler series. You buy the headset plus HT adapter cable and you're good to go.

This is probably your cheapest solution -- at about $95. Heil products are usually very good -- so it's not a terrible investment.

Of course you can always buy a Yaesu VX-8DR and buy the BT option module and their matching BT headset. Then you're wireless! :P

I had Pryme or MFJ that sounded so bad it gave me a headache.
I should add its primary mission is motor-bike and flip-up helmet.
