Ok, passed the Technician exam, guess I have a reason to get a radio now. The guys that gave me the exam recommended the TH-d7A(G) for an HT vice the TH-F6A. They said having 220 on an HT was almost unusable. Soo, I was wondering what everyones oppinion was? I was considering the triband to get the most for my money, any oppinions? |

Congrads Headhunter, I have the Icom T7H 2m/70cm Radio. I like it very well & I also have the Kennwood F6A witch I also like very well. If you get a chance and go to the Mike & Key Meet at Puyallup and talk to other Amuters to get there opinion on HT's. Then make your decision on what suits you best, pocketbook and use. |

Huh????? I use 220 in my Kenwood F6A more than I do 144. Works just fine from a handheld (though the stock Kenwood antenna doesn't work that great on 220, but that's hardly the fault of the radio itself). 220 is far more useful in an HT than 50mhz (as some competing HT's offer as their third band). However, if you want to do APRS from a portable, or have some kind of portable data need, then the D7A won't disappoint either. I have one of those, too. It's also a great radio. As a daily driver, I prefer my F6A (smaller size, better battery performance, 220mhz coverage....). Your mileage may vary.... Brad N7JGX Whidbey Island, WA |
