Im seeing reference to 147.54 P25 in the swap meet thread...

Is this a normal simplex for running P25 for everyone?

If it is should I just leave the radio pretty much at its defaults?

Im kinda new to the digital world...

Not in Western Washington...

Our moderator uses this frequency quite a bit...

As does a number of folks who are members, including myself.

Last year on this forum I :horse: about the use of P25 on that frequency...

Only time you hear P25 is in Puyallup on the second weekend of the month :bowrofl:

So, mind if I ask a blunt question? Why not use the more commonly accepted 2m call frequency (146.52)? My radio supports listening to two frequencies at once, and I prefer to sit one on the active repeater in my area... and the other on the call channel (146.52). Now I can't easily montior all 3...

Actually, 146.52 is reserved for analog, and 146.5375 is supposed to be the P25 calling channel.

That lessens the digital traffic's annoyance to the folks who have analog-only radios, similar to why packet has separate channels from voice.

Who decided 146.5375 is digital?

It's not official, just something that was put up as a nominal bandplan years ago that I've kept in my notes. There are a couple of other proposals floating around - but all avoid using 146.52.

ARRL is still "studying" going to narrowband on all or part of two meters, don't expect any help soon.
