It looks like Universal-Radio is jumping on the bandwagon of selling the cheaper Chinese radios.
Check these models out:

(2m, 4watt mini-handheld for $80)

http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/ht/5541.html

(2m/70cm, 4watt dual-band for $130)

Woxun Radios (2m/70cm and 220mhz versions)

Just found this looks like it is not available "yet". I am holding out for one that has 220.
Looking further, the specs seem to indicate 220 capability.
They also mention "F2D" and F3E" emmissions

That looks like it will be a great dual band mobile :D

I am guessing about $250.

Wonder if they make any HF rigs?

How do you pronounce that name?

Wox on (Wox on Wox off) :bowrofl:

Actually, the funny thing is that I've heard different pronounciations from Chinese people. A few agree that it should be "Wo-Sheen" but in some areas of the country they don't formally pronounce the "W" sound - so it may sound more like "O-Sheen"

I just say Walks-On myself.

That mobile is exactly what I like form factor wise. I really want to be able to put the 'box' under a seat and mount that face plate. I may not know anything about HAM, but I sure do like this Wax-on cheap stuff so far.

I got this one two days ago,
http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/ht/5547.html
I got it off Ebay so it came with the works, USB programing cable, Mics 2 of them, ear piece and the one that clips where ever you want, car charger, wall wart, and the CD to program it, a battery and a 18 month warranty. out of the box it came with a full charge, this thing can also do FM Radio, its very small in size, also come with a belt clip. I got it for $100, far less then what the above link sales it for.
from them your looking at over $200 for the works.

Has anyone heard anymore on the dual band mobile talked about above?

I've got some folks that want to move to 2m for trail comms when we are convoying out to camping spots or exploring, so pretty much everyone would be within a couple miles of each other. $70 would certainly get people to think about upgrading to ham instead of buying a CB or frs. Are these worth recommending?

I just picked up a Baofeng UV-3R Mk2 off epay for about $50. Neat radio, super small, and takes a standard size camera battery. 136-174, 400-470, and FM broadcast receive. Also has a "narrow" setting for those who wish to use a non type accepted radio on FRS. Pretty darn cool for chinese junk. Some people have questioned its ability to suppress the VHF 2nd harmonic but mine seems to be relatively clean. I certainly would buy another one. Its not bad for $50...

Thanks, hopefully that will get some people off the fence.

Are there any handhelds actually made in the USA anymore?

Everytime I read about China buying the Country I think back to watching Americathon at the drive-in!
