Any good recommendations on a mobile 6 meter rig?? Remote-able? Id like to do a CDM 1550 but haven't found enough info on software mods... Dont normally use amateur gear so Im clueless as to whats out there... |

I have not heard of anyone getting the CDM to work out of band (meaning above 50.00) maybe someone has done that now, but I have not heard. It would be a great radio if it will move. I have been on 6 for 35 years, my best recommendation is the Syntor X9000. Second would be the GE Delta-S. If you wanna' do some modification work, its pretty hard to beat the Maxtrac or its similar "big brother" the Maratrac / M400 for price. You can probably get a Maxtrac for under a hundred bucks shipped. I have run all of the above radios at one time or other. And I would never give up my X9000 in my car, Maxtracs in the house, and a Maratrac for the wifes car. Look on Batlabs or Repeater-Builder for the motorola info. Moving a Delta can be a little work, but you can probably find one already on 6 pretty cheap. |

If you don't mind a hammy rig for that purpose,the newer Alinco 6m only mobile isn't too bad - except that it won't remote: http://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-009244 The spec's on this series isn't spectacular, but for hammy use they're ok. Or, the variety of HF/6m all mode radios, some of which do have remote-able heads. I have a Yaesu FT-857, and it does rather nice on 6m. Brad. |

Thanks guys! I have a Jeep Cherokee with lots of antenna room and no real room to mount radios which is kind of a laugh if your reading the other thread we hijacked... Ive already mounted a Laird q27s on the side for monitoring purposes cut to 48mHz right now... Service monitor in the passenger seat.... Already have two heads on the console though Ive done 4 and a phone on an E.O.C. build once. Thus the remote head desire.. Ive got some stuff to go no now... :wink: |

And it's certainly not a 6m rig only or even probably great at it, but I'm really happy with my Yaesu FT-8900 in the car - has a remote head, does (in theory) 10m, 6m, as well as 2m & 70cm. |

I have a CDM 1550 on 220Mhz my self. For six I would recommend a TK-730, or TK790. The TK790's do take a bit of work (VCO, and sometime the PA). The TK6110 is a great unit also, but it's only 70 Watts, I know that is less than 3dB but it does seem tio make a difference on low band. Of course the X9000's would cover both 10, and 6 in the same unit, but they are old now and hard to find. A friend has one that put out just over 150 Watts, and he has had in on the ham band for well over ten years without any reduction in power. They will also do 255 modes with the correct f/w and rss plus it scans 64 channels. Jim |

Im playing with a Maratrac right now... Im not hearing much on the service monitor on the ham repeaters I know of... Are these not as used as the higher freqs? I know my antenna is working because I can hear baby monitors for close to a half mile in distance in some cases... I know the K7MMI system is off the air... |

Yeah, six meters is very quiet. Morning commutes, some on weekends. You kinda have to get to know people and when they are around to get into the swing of things. Jon Marckinko's repeaters on Buck and Tiger might be the busiest. 52.29 and 52.39. The linked system on Rose Hill is also busy at times. Can't recall the freq off the top of my head, but I am sure you can find the info. |

I have not seen Jon in about a year either. His repeaters were up when I was in WA working this summer/fall. But I have not heard him on the air since spring. |

Also, any other 6 Meter freqs you would / do have programmed in your commercial 6 Meter rig? TNX |
