Anyone have one of these radios? I got mine in only a few days directly from Hong Kong. Not a bad radio. It has some short-comings but I suspect their next model will address some of them. A lot of people don't realize that this radio wasn't "designed" for amateur radio - so they expect a feature like 'automatic repeater shifts.'

For just over $125 shipped - it's a good deal and pretty solid unit.

Just one quick important note: this radio does only have 1 VFO. So it's not a true, dual-band radio. (IMO, this means it has 2 VFO's.)

I actually saw an ad in QST for that rig. I was thinking of getting it as my glovebox radio as its perfect.

How is the front end on it?

I got one of these to try it out - so far so good, but I'm not using it much. For the price seems like a heck of a deal and a good backup radio. Some SAR guys I talked to said it's also type accepted so they were using it as a SAR VHF radio...

I would say it's above average. It does have 'automatic' squelch control - the settings 0-9 (9 being fully closed) and that nearly holds off all of the EMI. To be fair though - this is around my house - which can be hard on any handheld device. (It happens with handheld scanners too.)

While using it in the car and outside, the radio seems quite good. Like the other poster said, it makes a great backup radio. For me, I bought this as my primary handheld.

Check out YouTube for videos of this radio. There are some good reviews of it.

Yeah...its FCC Type accepted...they mention that in the ad in QST. I'll half to run it by the SAR group I am in the process of joining now; they will love it.

Good to hear it has an above average front end.

I've had one of these beauties for about a month, and I love it. I knew when I bought it that it didn't have some of the bells and whistles that radios from the bigger name companies have, but it does exactly what I want / need it to do, and I am very happy with the results.

I've always been told that my signal is clear; the battery life is pretty good, and it's pretty easy to program on the fly.

I've recommended it to a couple of friends, and they seemed pretty impressed with theirs as well.
