Lots of work, took 9 hours. Looked like the DEA had ripped the car apart. Basically remove headliner and all seat belt hardware, side panels, molding, pretty much everything down to seat level. The clearance is more that one would think. There is still about 3-4" where the window needs to drop down to it's track so everything above that is your space. Used LMR-195 solid and tie wrpped it to the support beams in the roof. One run was weaved along the beam while the other one was tied along it and held in place perfectly. The silver track below the roof beam is the moonroof track, still lots of room. These were then run down the left C pillar and exited out the lower door molding by the drivers seat. The 2 NMO's have about 40" of total ground plane to share. I used the 'good one' as the VHF and it is about 2/3 back behind the moon roof. It has around 16" behind it and plenty ahead of it. The second mount has about 8" in front of it and will be used for non VHF such as UHF or scanner. I also have 2 fender mounts too. Thanks to Mr K for doing the lions share of this. holy GIGANTIC PICTURE BATMAN :chaingun: 4 min of loading 2mb of pictures later. looks nice - lotta work! I would have just cheated and mag mounted that but nice! you should put some LCD monitors in there now. |

haha yes. geocities went off line and I ignored it before taking all the photos of my install job off line archive http://web.archive.org/web/200703262214 ... llykeeton/ that's all that is left :( so I have been there riped it apart. decided to sell.. then try and figure out what I wanted to keep or just sell with the car. or had some horrible soul rip out because they broke in and want to make a quick buck selling it. naw.. been there paid the price on all accounts. Mag mount works just nice for me.. But I do appreciate a good install job! |

Yea yea... :chaingun: Ive decided though... Im saving up all these little holes and am going to weld me together a crown vic as soon as I get a few more.... :mrgreen: I did a hidden Stico brand vhf antenna on my Cherokee this time around. Still have a uhf on the roof but am getting tired of the paranoid drivers that pass me slooooowly to look... /hijack icom1020= id bet you'd be happier with a B4503 model uhf ant.... |

I have a Maxrad UHF 5/8 thick rod antenna with a spring that I may put up later |

Three years ago, come this May, I took delivery of a new LLBean Outback 3.0. It's first stop, after replacing the baloney tires on the car with Michelins, was the local Motorola shop. It took them exactly 45 minutes to drop the headliner at the back and install a NMO mount and RG8X coax that was routed to the "trunk" area where it terminated in an Icom IC-208H dualbander. It would certainly have been a major project to run two cables to the front of the car but the way I had it done met my needs completely. The only thing I didn't do that I should have done was to have two NMOs instead of just one installed at that time. The space between the space required to slide back the sunroof and the back of the car was more than adequate for the hole in the roof. My point is that there is a second way to do this job that is not nearly as invasive, as long as you're putting the radio in the back of the car. |

Yeah, it could of been done quicker I suppose but they do hundreds of installs. I did drop the headliner for awhile but it kept getting in the way. I really wanted 2 antennas. I learned a lot too about soldering NMO's and PL259 connectors. Plus the installer was doing a top notch job and took his time to make sure everything was covered. |
