To start the topic again, to OWEN62
OWEN62 you had a question of how many hams are on the forums here as well as where to start learning to use your radios more.
this is a good spot to check out all the hams on these forums, I am one and am also a VE (volunteer examiner) for getting people passed on the FCC exam
If you are a Kinesthetic learner I would suggest using the following resources
http://www.qrz.com/ham/http://www.w5yi.org/THe QRZ site has a practice test area and if you can just start taking the test to learn the questions as you miss them, once you can pass test 1-10 with no or little failure your good for the real Technician test
The w5YI books provide a lot of the same with a little theory, the main idea again to pass the test
then once you pass the test you can learn hands on, with your equipment there are a LOT of people on the air who are very happy to help you learn. I am one of them if you find a old man who is grouchy move on.
if you need more of the theory and understanding and like to read, the ARRL books are a good start, I have never taught with them as most people in the hobby start wanting hands on. (so thats where I focus my time)
