Is there a store in the seattle-bellevue area to purchase a new 2 meter handheld over the counter. Or do you have to order over the internet. ie icom -yeasu-kenwood |

If you want to hold onto the radio before you buy, your choices are a bit limited. I believe ABC Communications in Seattle still has some Amateur stuff on their shelves - though I haven't been in there for many years. There is also ALF Enterprises in Arlington (if you don't mind driving up north). Other than that, your only choice is going to be mail order via Ham Radio Outlet, Amateur Radio Supply, or a variety of other vendors. Most of them are on the internet, so it shouldn't be hard to find them. If you have a specific need for just 144mhz coverage, then you can probably find some good deals. If you can afford to spend a few more bucks, try to get a dual or tri-band handheld - at least in Seattle, there are a LOT of great repeaters on the "other" bands (50mhz, 220mhz, and 440mhz). Having the extra capability will make your operations more versatile and enjoyable. Good Luck - Brad N7JGX Lynnwood, WA |
