I noticed that the air was dead, whats up? did no one go out to contest VHF? I was all excited to use my new 6m JPole but never found anyone transmitting, I know band was up as my dad could chat with me but nothing else.. :( |

We went up to Buck Mt Sunday. I could here a few Canadian stations on 146.58 but never any US calls... |

OK... What 6 meter band frequencies were you listening to??? Most of the activity was concentrated on or about 50,125 USB, and 99.9% of those are HORIZONTALLY polarized and using directional, sometimes VERY directional antennae. The gang up on Mt. Brenton, in Canada, using the call VE7IY were LOUD here at my "underground" home QTH, on all bands thru 432 Mhz... If FM is all you got on 2 meters, then, well, you wouldn't have heard much there... More traffic on my "voice orderwire" of 147.540 that weekend... although 146.58 is a sort of FM contest calling frequency. The real action is down on 144.200, and heard some digital EME attempts at around 144.145 after moonrise. I wasn't working it too hard and didn't keep a log, but worked well over a dozen stations on 6 and 2 meters, and the occasional rover or two. Bands as high as 10368.1 Mhz were used by others! I will say that activity was down from last year's September VHF test however. Eric KB7DQH |
