So are all new receivers getting better and better in all radios?. The receiver in the 710 is amazing. My Yupiteru just pulls in 119.9 out of the noise. This radio has the tower side almost as strong as some of the planes. Really it's picking up a bit too much. Like on 154.77 I have to crank up the SQL a bit to avoid transmitters west of PA that I've never heard before from here, but a are very weak. I wish I could get the 200-390 tuner to go into AM mode! Passed my 10+ year old ICOM dual onto my kid. You might just hear N7WPM on a Sno County machine.

I found the downside of this radio. 151.04 From home I always have it on to keep an eye on the local ferry. Once in a while I would get the Edmonds/Kingston during crossings. Now with the 710 I have to deal with listening to the Stevens Pass Repeater.

I've been (ab)using my IC-7000 for monitoring VHF aircraft. Much better than my AR3000 and other radios, especially when you kick in the RF preamp, 3kc filter, and DSP NR.
