The last thing I want to do is install a Childrens Band radio in my truck... however, I hit the mountains with guys that are too lazy to get a real radio.

Is there such a thing as a HAM rig that can transmit down in the CB wastelands?

Not off the shelf. You can always modify one to do it. Two things to consider though, its illegal to use a ham rig to transmit outside the ham bands, and most ham rigs don't push their AM modulation as far as CB's which means people would probably hear you at a low volume on their radio.

CB's are inexpensive enough you might as well buy one. I have one sitting on the shelf that goes into the car for long trips. They are still moderately useful on the highway for road conditions, "smokey bear", etc.
