Well, I have a brand new FT8800, and VX6R still in the box, I guess I will pull out the 6R, and try and figure it out..

Pretty lame way to spend a Saturday night, but I will live...

Now just wait for the FCC to post the new call...

I would say that is a good way to spend some time. I would do the 8800 first, but you know, what the hey.

I dont really need to do any Mods to my Radio's... I have access to much bigger systems if I really wanted to cause trouble :P

I still need to grab an antenna, so messing around with the 8800 is kinda lame at the moment... Im needing to take a road trip to Portland, and HRO

yea, Im sure you do!

the vx-yr is just a software option that 3rd party tools can "enable" so its not much of a hardware mod, but the cool part i like about it is that it will keep within operation and allow you do run on FRS frequency's so you have a 5w FRS radio which is handy when working with others one radio to carry,

I did the mod for the purpose of FRS on a FT-50. I seemed it didn't work as well as I thought/you would think, it would.

Plus it warmed up fast while TX'n out of band.
I didn't bother to mod my V8000. Not unless I have a call sign that goes with the out of band freq's, it doesn't intrest me. I never did need a radio nowdays with cell phones.

Someone will mention the legality of 'type accepted' or the Nisqually shaker.

you want to be careful with this since the radio is tuned you will cause the RF to reflect back into the equipment (the warmth your noticing) and cause damage to the vfo etc.

FRS however is so close to 440 and i doubt the tolerances are that close, this more applies to transmitting in the 500's and 150+'s

So I wonder what happens when the FCC exhaust all the call signs; like when they get to the end of KZ7###... :?:
Hmm. Maybe by then they (we) could start over using some dead guy's call signs.

They will use W & A calls.

Example: WD7XXX or AD7XXX.

Still lots of calls avail.

You can also get vanity calls by looking for calls
that are not used at the present and requesting a call
by paying a few bucks.

Even dead guys calls after a period of time.
I can't remember how long you have to wait
until you can get these. They do become avail.

Hope you get on the air and enjoy ham radio.
Don't get discouraged about the current conditions on
the higher HF frequencies. At least we are on the way
towards better propagation. In a couple of years and
HF will be very good for DX again. Hopefully sooner.
